More about St. Mary's and St. Timothy's Church

Regardless of your past religious experiences, or situation in life, you are welcome at St. Mary's and St. Timothy's. We are a group of Jesus followers that of the Anglican variety.
The Anglican church is often known as worshiping with the aid of a "liturgy". “Liturgy” means the “work of the people”. It is an ancient form of worship that is meant to include as many people as possible in actively worshiping God as a community. The form of our service has ancient roots that reach back to synagogue worship in the first century and even back to worship in the Temple in Jerusalem. We use these ancient forms because they help us to remember that we are a part of a larger story in which God has been leading his people for thousands of years and they also include a lot of the Bible and prayers of the saints throughout the centuries. We do not, however, hold onto these forms in a legalistic way. As if doing each action and saying each word properly is some kind of guarantee of God accepting our worship. No, we may carry forms of the past so long as they help us to love God and our neighbor- as Jesus commanded. We also are a people who belong to a modern culture in a particular place in the world and our worship should reflect that too. As Christians we are continuously building bridges between the ancient world and the world we live in. Our service can be viewed in two parts- The “Word”, and the “Eucharist”. During the “Word” we are nourished through hearing and meditating on the words of the Bible as they are read and explained. During the Eucharist we are nourished through the presence of Jesus in the communion (bread and wine).

What do we believe?
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic [universal] Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (Apostles’ Creed- roots in the 2nd C.)

All Baptized Christians are invited to the table regardless of denomination. You may kneel or stand to receive communion. Please hold your hands cupped in front of you to receive the bread wafer, or Cross your arms over your chest if you would rather receive a blessing. The cup will come to you after the bread. You may receive wine from the cup, or cross your arms to not receive the wine. You are also welcome to remain in your pew if you are unable to come forward. And we will bring it to you.
