Sunburst was once home to a Texaco Refinery. In 2004, a suit was won by members of Sunburst for restoration and clean-up. However, as the appeals process went on, that money accrued interest. The Supreme Court ruled that this interest must be given to charity. Instead of giving this lump sum to one organization outside of Sunburst, the Sunburst Community Foundation (SCF) was formed. This kept the money at home for you. Over the past three years, this foundation has given a considerable amount of money to the community and is investing a portion too! It is this foundations goal to grow the money and every year give to needed community projects. This is Sunburst’s money, what do you want done with it? Come join the foundation committee or just come and learn more about what is happening by joining us the 2nd Monday of the month at 5pm in the Sunburst Library.

The SCF has also offered an Estate Planning Seminar & Grant Writing Workshops to our community.
