More about Surrey Football Club

Growing the Club

In 1992 there were 1250 members and a loose affiliation with the Surrey FC Senior Program. In 1994 the Surrey FC Premier team won the Pakenham Cup and went to the Semi-finals of the Men's Provincials with Frank McCann as coach.

In 1996 Mini/Micro program was expanded bringing registration to 1300 players under 10 years old.

In 1998 the Surrey FC Men's Program merged with the Youth Program and SYSA acquired the Pegasus FC Program to ensure a VMSL presence. In 2004, Pegasus FC completed the "treble" - winning the Imperial Cup, Provincial Cup, and a National Championship. Also in the same year Pegasus Mike Dood was named the VMSL " Most Valuable Player " for 2003-2004. This success was astounding as no other association had won these many Premier awards all in the same year. In 2008 the Pegasus FC Premier team merged with Indo- Canadian Sikh Temple Football Club and " ICST Pegasus FC" was formed. In 2011 Pegasus Premier team won the 2011 BC Soccer Premier Mens Provincial Championship. Interestingly players Adam Costley and Ryan Powell who were part of this championship in 2011 are the "Originals" as they are from the old Pegasus FC Premier team that won multiple trophies in 2004 including National Championships. Leading the Pegasus team over the years as the head coach was Rob Reed who himself played with our Pegasus Premier Team in 2004 as a player . Under Reed, ICST Pegasus rose to become one of the VMSL premier league's most successful teams over the years. Winning one Provincial Cup (2011), and one premier championship (2012). Sahil Sandhu who currently plays with our Mens Premier Team was awarded with Player Of The Year Award in 2006. This award is presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding achievements at the provincial, national, or international level. Today the Pegasus Premier team is one of the most alarming teams in Premier division as it portrays excessive amounts of talent. Come watch the Pegasus Premier team play at our home in Newton Athletic Park. . http://www.vmslsoccer.com/prem_sched.html

Making Newton Athletic Park our Home

This growth took SYSA/SFC Pegasus FC to 3000 members and along with the "Old-timers" - Over 40 and Over 50 teams, which put the Club at over 3000 members.

In 1995 SFC negotiated the operation of the Newton Athletic Concession and in 1999 Surrey parks also gave SYSA the operation of the NAP Pavilion. This followed with the Surrey Parks "Home Park" concept which allowed Newton Athletic Park to become the Home Park of SYSA/SFC Pegasus FC.

In 2003 the first Synthetic Field was opened at Newton Athletic Park. This field is an all weather field with full lighting for year round enjoyment of many sports including soccer, field hockey, field lacrosse and more. Today we have four Synthetic Fields at Newton Athletic Park.
