TEAD (The Equestrian Association for the Disabled)

Riders are matched to their horse to ensure that they receive maximum benefit while riding. A rider with very tight, spastic muscles, usually starts off on a narrow, smooth gaited horse to encourage relaxation of the muscles, whereas a rider with poor balance or trunk control would be mounted on a wider horse to provide them with a more stable base of support.

Lessons vary in length from 30-60 minutes depending on the riders age and ability. Exercises are recommended by the physiotherapist and implemented by the riding instructor. Progress is monitored on a weekly basis and records are kept to ensure that all the riders are receiving individual feed back.

Once our riders can maintain their balance in the arena, we take them outside where they learn to ride up and down hills, and enjoy the scenary and fresh air on our 92 acre farm nestled in the rolling hills of Mount Hope, Hamilton.
