The AES started out as a university club, and for years remained so, until too many of our members were no longer undergraduate students and we no longer qualified as a university club. And so we moved off campus and had to start collecting membership dues in order to cover our expenses.
We have continued with this model and operate under it today. We are strictly non-profit, as our club is about the learning our Western Martial Arts and sharing that information with anyone who is interested. Classes are instructed by senior club members, and all members are volunteers.
We remain small, and enjoy the camaraderie and closeness that such a club allows. Since our members started having families of their own, our age limitations opened up, and we now have kids as young as 11 in our club, as well as adults in their 50's. We feel that WMA is fun for all ages!
Swordsmanship, wrestling, weapons training from the historical European tradition, and unarmed combat are all areas of study for us -- we are all students of Western Martial Arts.
