The Chain

Trenton High School's Music Theatre students have spent this past year creating an original musical production to showcase to the community. This year’s production is titled The Chain and features the music of the legendary band Fleetwood Mac. The Chain portrays the effect that personal struggles alongside a life altering illness take through four generations of women. The play depicts the impact that the time period has on the situation, taking place spread throughout the 1900’s.

In 1932 begins a captivating journey for a family with a disease that will follow them for generations to come. Hazel, a loving wife and soon to be loving mother, is faced with hardship shortly after her husband, Charles, returns from war. When Charles becomes fatally ill, he leaves Hazel to grasp motherhood alone with a dissipating memory.

Hazel’s daughter, Sara, must face her problems in adulthood with nobody to depend on but her fiance. That is until he is conscripted into the Korean war, leaving her to figure out the ropes by herself. Then Rhiannon comes along, offering Sara the companionship she lacks and she finds herself in a scandalous love affair. When Sara notices her health is picking up where her mother’s left off, she is stuck choosing between who will not only offer her companionship, but security.

Next in line is Beverly, a hard working daughter and wife, with her life planned out ahead of her. As a business woman, Beverly is known for biting off more than she can chew, but is used to having the ability to maneuver her way to victory. When her memory begins to affect her balance and ability to organize her life, Beverly soon learns that even her concrete paths can chip away.

Beverly parents twins, Miranda and Mitchell. Miranda is a wild child, living life on edge with the knowledge that it might not matter what she does if she just ends up forgetting it later. Mitchell cannot have the illness, causing tension between the siblings, but that doesn’t prevent their solid relationship. When Miranda begins crossing the line, Mitchell distances himself leaving Miranda to pick up the pieces alone, all while not knowing if she’ll face the same fate as the women before her.

The Chain represents how humans allow the unavoidable, unpredictable and uncontrollable to influence their quality of life

Tickets will be for sale in Student Services during regular school hours. They will also be sold prior to each show in the main lobby.
