When the ‘Tree’ opened it’s doors in 1986 it marked the realization of a dream for B.C. hospitality icon Mr. Gordon Card. In addition to having the first non governmental cold beer and wine store in the province the pub was built to Gordon’s exceedingly high standard of craftsmanship, of which is still apparent today.
The origin of the pub's name came from a 60 ft high Monkey Tree that stood on the highest point of land at the pubs location. It was a natural beacon and landmark to the community, welcoming everyone to the ‘Tree’. Unfortunately the tree itself was felled in the early nineties but the Pub had already secured itself as a landmark, a place to come together.
Our family run business stands behind the philosophy to have a welcoming place, to provide the customer with a high level of service and feature home cooked meals for a reasonable price. This philosophy has taken root and is evident in our large and loyal customer base. We have regulars from all over the surrounding Victoria area and many visitors who return year after year from abroad.
