Ingredients and You
We like to have a lot of fun at Tiber River, but one of the things we are pretty serious about are the ingredients we choose to go into our products. We choose only naturally derived ingredients, with the exception of some fragrance oils (because we like to smell good too). We want to make sure all the ingredients we choose are safe to use on our bodies. There are millions of choices out there and we are always exploring new and exciting possibilities.
We do not use mineral oils at all because they have a history of trapping ingredients into the skin. On its own, it is not harmful, but when it is used in conjunction with other ingredients (and it always is in any formulation), it can exacerbate the comedogenic (pore-clogging) effects.
We do not use parabens (a commonly used type of preservative) because of the controversy implicating that parabens may cause cancer, influence estrogen levels, accumulate in tissues and increase UVB-mediated DNA damage. Studies are ongoing and while there are both supportive and negating claims, we choose to take the safe route and not use them at all.
These are just two of the many decisions we have made when formulating our products. And because we research, develop and manufacture all of our products ourselves, we have complete control over what does and doesn’t go into our products.

Ingredients and the Environment
All of our ingredients must be obtained in a safe, sustainable manner so we can continue to have as much fun as we do on our beautiful planet. We research our ingredients carefully and are always adapting and changing what we do to ensure our products will not harm our earth, and everything on it.
We do not use any palm oil or palm oil related ingredients because of the devastating effects palm oil production has had on the forests and wild life in South East Asia, Central and Western Africa and Central America.
We choose to wrap our soap in biodegradable, compostable eucalyptus paper packaging, allowing them to remain dry so they will last longer in your shower.
We also do not use Cocomide DEA. While this is a natural ingredient derived from coconut oil, it is acutely toxic to aquatic organisms and there is a potential for bioaccumulation. In addition, it can react with nitrites in the air that have been released from the degradation of some chemicals used as preservatives in other cosmetics. When combined with these nitrites, it forms nitrosamines, which the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies as a potential human carcinogen. We want to make sure that we have no part in endangering our earth or the people, animals and life that live on it.
