Commissioned in 1962 the Steelworkers Centre has been home to many great Steelworker Locals and has been a popular gathering place for labour organizations and the NDP. Originally it had a downstairs bar where many boisterous converations have taken place and it too was a popular gathering place.
Over the years, as with many private sector unions, the Steelworker membership has declined and changes were made to the building.
Tenants now include a non-profit dental clinic operated by the Steelworkers and it is also home to the Hamilton Area Council Adjustment Center where laid off Steelworkers can get help finding a new job, receive training or move onto second career training.
As well the building is occupied by the International and Locals 5328, 4752, 16506.
The center also has a full use auditorium/banquet center that can be used for meetings, schools and workshops and is available for rent for a host of other activities.
There is office space available as well.
