One of my happiest memories as a child was sitting patiently on a chair while my grandmother painstakingly applied henna on my hands. Her method for applying henna was old-school. She picked up tiny dabs of henna paste with a toothpick which she used as a paintbrush to decorate my palm. All the while telling me to sit still with my fingers stretched out so that I wouldn't smear the design. Today, the aroma of henna takes me back to that moment every time.

Art has always been deeply rooted in my emotions and my state of mind. Artistic expression is what grounds me, connects me to family and my culture, and is a form of therapy through which I can make sense of the world.

Creating art truly makes me happy, and I want to share what makes me happy with the world.
